Worshipping and Serving Together

Intergenerational interaction is important to us!
At Bethlehem, we believe when adults and young people participate in activities together, it mutually benefits our youth AND the volunteers who engage in their lives, allowing them to grow together in ways that they cannot grow separately.  You will find people of all ages pitching in to serve together at Bethlehem!

Young people in worship - We love having our young people in worship with us and work to include them actively in the service.  Children and youth participate get involved in many ways including:

  • serving as usher (pass out bulletins, take offering)
  • serving as Scripture readersMiss Margaret leads the children during a Children's Chat.
  • serving as acolytes (light candles, handle offering plates)
  • singing or playing musical instruments

Children are not waiting to be leaders of the church in some day to come but are serving and leading alongside adults right now!  And we are grateful for them!

Holy Bible

It is the tradition at Bethlehem to present 8 year-olds with their first Bibles.  Each child has their own special Sunday to recite a pre-chosen verse from memory and receive their Bible (and usually a much-deserved round of applause!).

Dinners at United Caring Services - A group from Bethlehem serves a meal at UCS once a month.  Different groups are assigned different months throughout the year to make sure dinner is served right on time for our neighbors.  Our Youth Group serves a few times a year, but individual members can also often be found assisting their parents' groups at other times throughout the year.  What a gift to serve alongside our church family feeding those who are hungry in our community!

Bucket Blitz - For almost ten years, Bethlehem has prepared disaster relief buckets for Church World Service.  This intergenerational project provides needed cleaning supplies for those impacted by severe weather.  Adults carefully shop for and organize supplies, and then our children, paired with youth helpers, assemble the supplies into completed kits.
